Mayo Volunteer Centre
Mayo Volunteer Centre is the one-stop shop for volunteering, providing services for organisations and individuals in Co. Mayo. Established in 2009, the Centre is part of a network of 29 Volunteer Centres across Ireland funded by the Government, and is affiliated to Volunteer Ireland,
the national volunteering body.
Moy Valley Resources provides accounting and HR services to Mayo Volunteer Centre via a Service Level Agreement, and supports the running of the Centre.
Services for Volunteers
If an individual wants to volunteer, they can register at www.volunteermayo.ie, giving as much detail as they can about their skills and what they are looking for in a volunteer role.
A national searchable database of available volunteer roles is available and updated daily.
The Centre also works individually with volunteers to understand their needs, capacity and interests.
Not-for-profit organisations can register with Mayo Volunteer Centre, who will help them to develop and promote volunteering roles.
The Centre can help with writing role descriptions, developing a volunteer policy, or setting them up for Garda vetting, if their roles are working with children or vulnerable adults.
The Volunteer Centre also offers advice on how to include
volunteers who might need extra support.
Through its affiliation with Volunteer Ireland, Mayo Volunteer Centre offers training for volunteer managers in organisations which guides them through setting up a volunteer programme, managing and appreciating their own volunteers.
Mayo Volunteer Centre is run by a full-time Manager, Lesley Moore, and two Development Officers, Vincent McHale and Edel Gallagher.
Mayo Volunteer Centre also has a Community Engagement Officer, Arlene Monteith whose focus is on helping new communities such as Ukrainians and International Protection Applicants to find suitable volunteering roles.
